GVERSE Planner and Field Planner are tools that intelligently populate wells across an entire field based on defined hazards, lease areas, and constraints. These tools utilize advanced optimization algorithms to quickly lay out hundreds of wells, allowing users to visualize geologic surfaces, create surveys and geoprognosis reports, and make changes to existing well plans with ease. In situations where the interpreter needs to relocate the pad or well(s) to a new location, GVERSE Field Planner offers a simple solution with just a few clicks directly on the map. This blog will provide a step-by-step guide on how to move a well and a drill pad in GVERSE Field & Well Planner.
- Activate a project in GeoGraphix.
- Click on the GeoAtlas icon located on the tool bar.
- The GeoAtlas – Getting Started window will open. Select either Create a new map or Open an existing map and click Next. If you choose to open an existing map, the GeoAtlas – Getting Started Open Map window will appear. Select the desired map from the list and click Finish.
- GeoAtlas will open, displaying all the layers in the map.
- Activate or add a field planner layer (the field planner icon resembles a domino). To add a layer, click on the Layers selection icon. The Layer Selection window will open. Select the well and field planner layer and click OK.
- To create or plan new wells, click on the Field planner icon.

a. Select the blue dot and drag it to the new location (the blue dot will change into a blue circle).
b. The well will automatically update to the new location.
c. Repeat the process for the remaining wells if necessary. The wells can be moved in any direction as needed by the interpreter. - To move the surface location of the well(s), follow the same steps as for the bottom location (Steps 9a, 9b, 9c, and 9d).
a. Click on the black arrow on the Pro toolbar, then select the well at the surface location and drag it to the new location.
b. The new surface location will be applied automatically.
