A plethora of well data can be imported into a GeoGraphix project using different types of vendors or formats; one of which is a generic Excel spreadsheet. The interpreter can import well header information, DST, core analysis, well surveys, production data, and much more into a WellBase database using the GeoGraphix Excel macro tool. The steps below will teach you how to import basic well header information into a GeoGraphix project using Excel data.
- Activate a GeoGraphix Project. Please note that well data can be imported from WellBase or from the ProjectExplorer window, and all the GVERSE GeoGraphix modules have to be closed.
- Open WellBase by clicking on the WellBase icon in the GVERSE GeoGraphix modules toolbar.
- Click on the WellBase icon in the upper left corner, select Imports, and click Spreadsheet Import.
- Look for the Excel spreadsheet location, select the file, and click Open.
- Alternatively, the Spreadsheet import can be activated from ProjectExplorer. Go to ProjectExplorer > File > Import > Spreadsheet.
- Look for the Excel spreadsheet location, select the file, and click Open.
- The Excel spreadsheet will open, and the Start Application Macro window will appear. Select the WellBase icon and click OK. The Macro tool will activate (a yellow box will appear) on the Excel Spreadsheet, and the ADD-INS tab will also appear.
- Go to the ADD-INS tab, from the drop list, select Header. The tool to import well header information is now activated.
- In each column, right-click on the yellow box from that column, and the fields import data box will open (in this case Header fields). Click on the drop box and match the data name with the column name. Always map the name with a * on it; this is the minimum required data that has to be mapped/imported.
- Repeat the same process for each data to be imported. On the top, next to header, the number 3 shows the macro tool that the import will begin from row #3. You can change this number and match it to the row number from where the data will be imported.
- After all the data is mapped and ready to be imported, click on the WellBase icon on the Excel Spreadsheet.
- The GeoGraphix Transfer window will appear. Select the data to be imported under Select tables to process. Under options, choose Import new wells (if you are importing new wells) or Allow updates of existing wells (if you are updating wells). Then, select the measurement system and coordinate system and click OK. If the data has a different coordinate system than the project, click on the Select Coordinate System box and select the project Coordinate System. That way, the project will transform the data automatically to the project coordinates.
- The new well data will appear in WellBase.
